BOTB 1970s: Bob Marley Survives Tiebreaker; Queen Advances

It was the first tiebreaker in 2 Years.

The 2-7 matchups have concluded in the 2024 Battle of the Bands: The 1970s tournament. On Dave’s bracket 2nd seeded Bob Marley’s Exodus needed a tiebreaker to defeat 7th seeded Carole King’s Tapestry. Meanwhile on John’s bracket, 2nd seeded Queen’s A Night at the Opera held off 7th seeded David Bowie’s The and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

On Dave’s bracket, Carole King led for most of the matchup, but Bob Marley surged back on the second day. A final vote for Tapestry tied the matchup on where it went to a one day tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Marley had no problem beating Carole King 58.3% to 41.7%. It was the first BOTB tiebreaker since 2022.

On John’s bracket 2nd seeded Queen’s A Night at the Opera didn’t face a serious threat and managed to put away 7th David Bowie’s The and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

The Sweet 16 is all finalized. On John’s bracket 2nd seeded Queen’s A Night at the Opera will matchup against 6th seeded Van Halen’s Van Halen album. Meanwhile on Dave’s bracket, 2nd seeded Bob Marley’s Exodus goes up against 3rd seeded Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On.
