Something seems to be missing these days. It seems that record companies, radio stations, and streaming services are pushing some the great established musicians to the background. As a result these veteran artists are not getting the attention they deserve. Enter the Top 10 Album Countdown: The New Oldies. The main point is simple – to make this list you must have at least 20 years of producing established music. The album by the artist must have been released between November 1st, 2024 and October 31st, 2025.
#4 Album of the Year 2025: Counting Crows – Butter Miracle, The Complete Suite Sweets
When the Counting Crows released their debut album August and Everything After in 1993, I was so impressed that I thought they were shoo-ins for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. While they have had a solid career in the past 32 years, I’m not sure they reach the Hall of Fame level. This year they released their 8th studio album – well sort of called Butter Miracle, The Complete Suite Sweets.
Back in 2021, Counting Crows released an EP Butter Miracle, Suite One. There were plans for a Suite Two, but lead singer and songwriter Adam Durtiz wasn’t happy with what was planned. Duritz would take nearly four years to complete Suite Two. He decided to combine what he produced for Suite Two with what was previously released for Suite One, and release Butter Miracle, The Complete Suite Sweets. There was one additional track also added to The Complete Suite Sweets, With Love, From A-Z. An executive decision was made to count this as 2025 New Oldies.
The result is a vintage Counting Crows sound, the evoked memories of why August and Everything After was so great. The Complete Suite Sweets combined their signature alternative-roots rock style with exemplary storytelling. Perhaps this New Oldies release could keep them in Hall of Fame contention.
