The New Oldies: #3 Album of the Year 2025: Ringo Starr – Look Up

Ringo Starr's' Look Up lands at #3 on the 2025 New Oldies list.

Something seems to be missing these days. It seems that record companies, radio stations, and streaming services are pushing some the great established musicians to the background. As a result these veteran artists are not getting the attention they deserve. Enter the Top 10 Album Countdown: The New Oldies. The main point is simple – to make this list you must have at least 20 years of producing established music. The album by the artist must have been released between November 1st, 2024 and October 31st, 2025.

#3 Album of the Year 2025: Ringo Starr – Look Up

Look Up is the 21st studio album by Ringo Starr. Yes Ringo Starr of Beatles fame, who this past year turned 85 years young. This album was a country-album effort that Starr collaborated with legendary guitarist T. Bone Burnett. It’s Starr’s first album in six years, but he has kept quite busy. This past year he turned with the All-Starr Band, a project he has kept going for many years. And guess what? Starr isn’t done year, as another collaboration is in the works with Burnett for 2026.

One thing to note, this is not Starr’s first foray into country music. Back in 1970, Starr’s second album Beaucoups of Blues was a country album. And if you have followed Ringo with the All Starr Band, you know he is pretty much capable of playing almost every genre.

Look Up seemed more like a collaboration with Burnett, as his fingerprint is on most of the tracks except for the final track with Ringo does with Allison Krauss. On top of that Burnett co-produced the album for Ringo. I would say this is an album that showcases more of Ringo’s vocals than his drumming. For an 85 year old, his vocals sound like he is in his 30s. It’s the end, Look Up is album that will appeal to both the classic and country music fan. This is an album you will listen to over and over again.
