#7 Kylie Minogue – Disco

Kylie Minogue has been doing what she has been doing for a long time. Disco, a late 2020 release (thus qualifying past the November 1st date for The New Oldies), brings Minogue’s track record of excellence into a fifth decade. It’s still bizarre she doesn’t come up in Hall of Fame discussions.

If you have followed Minogue’s career, an album title like Disco is not going to surprise you as she has always had a dance-music focus. Her previous album, Golden was a unique fusion of country and modern dance music. Now Minogue goes in a less experimental route, bringing together a fusion of retro-Disco and modern dance music. While certainly this is not groundbreaking, Minogue is one of the best in the business in this genre, and it shines on Disco.

A year later, an offshoot album called Disco: Guest List Edition would be released, but the original issue Disco will more than satisfy. This isn’t your cookie cutter artists trying to capture retro-Disco in her music. Kylie delivers a spectacular performance on this album where she keeps true to her roots. If you are looking for an album to party coming out of the pandemic, this is the album for you.
