Country Music Legend Loretta Lynn Dead at 90

Loretta Lynn, who would have a monster six decade career in Country Music has died. She was 90 yeas old.

The family of Loretta Lynn released the following statement “Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills.”

She had hits such as You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man), Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind), One’s on the Way, Fist City, and Coal Miner’s Daughter. In 1980, the film Coal Miner’s Daughter was released based on her life story.

During her career, Lynn had 18 Grammy nominations and won 3 times. As of 2022, Lynn was the most awarded female country recording artist, and the only female ACM (Academy of Country Music) Artist of the Decade (1970s). Lynn scored 24 No. 1 hit singles and had 11 number one albums.

Recently Lynn has had a series of health problems. In 2017 she ended 57 years of touring on the road after she suffered a stroke. The following year she broke her hip.

She was also known for her 48 year tumultuous marriage to Oliver Lynn. The marriage produced six children: Betty Sue, Jack, Ernie, Cissie, Peggy Jean, and Patsy Eileen. Her husband, Betty Sue, and Jack each preceded her in death.
