80s Madness: Def Leppard and Van Halen Advance to Sweet 16

Two four seeds won their 4-5 matchups in the opening round of Dave and Coo’s bracket. Def Leppard’s Hysteria held off a gutsy challenge from Whitney Houston’s Whitney on Dave’s bracket. Meanwhile on Coop’s bracket, Van Halen’s 5150 pulled ahead of The Police’s Synchronicity early and didn’t look back.

On Dave’s bracket Def Leppard’s Hysteria would take the matchup 58.8 % to 41.2% over Whitney Houston’s Whitney. With Whitney Houston’s loss, the ladies continue their struggles in Battle of the Bands. The two ladies in the 2023 tournament: Madonna and Whitney Houston have been eliminated in Round 1.

On Coop’s bracket, Van Halen also won by 58.8% to 41.2%.   Van Halen’s win, along with Def Leppard’s win continues to show “Hair” and “Metal” bands have been successful in the 2023 matchup

The results of these 4-5 matchups, set up Sweet Sixteen matchups on both Dave and Coop’s brackets. On Dave’s bracket, top seeded Guns N’ Roses, Appetite for Destruction will face 4th seeded Def Leppard’s Hysteria. Meanwhile on Coop’s bracket top-seeded AC/DC’s Back in Black faces Van Halen’s 5150.
