Czarface ft. Frankie Pulitzer’s Brothers Grimm: When Wu-Tang Meets Venom

Czarface is back an interesting collab. I won’t burry the headline…Frankie Pulitzer is the hip hop alias of Tom Hardy….yes…that Tom Hardy…like Bane or Venom. I first thought this was a gimmick, but then I looked deeper. Czarface is an underground hip hop band consisting of 7L, Esoteric and Inspectah Deck from Wu-Tang…they have street cred. Then I look even deeper…El-P, Method Man and Busta Rhymes are on this record…these are heavy hitters. Maybe I’m wrong…is a hip hop track with Tom Hardy, sorry Frankie Pulitzer, going to be….good?

To be honest, it’s hard to sound bad with Czarface. Esoteric has some of the tightest beats out there and the samples and scratches are timed to perfection. The wall of 70s soul is set off with tight drums and some amazing synth. 7L and Inspectah Deck have some classic Czarface fun bars about atomantium, “Cooper Flagg in a Doo Rag,” and sending MCs to the burn unit. For me, Czarface has some of the most clever and fun bars and word art anywhere in the game. So, the beats are tight, the samples are on point, 7L and Deck are bringing their “A” game…the only thing left is Frankie. Will he be up to the task? Will he be the X Men’s Wolverine or more like Eye-Scream…look him up.

Now, saying Tom is Wolverine is a bit much…maybe more like Beast…he’s solid and doesn’t let the team down, but shouldn’t headline. We’ll refer to him as his alter ego for the rest of the review. Frankie holds his own. He has a flow to him and a definite style. Think about a London gangster that raps in between beating people up for protection money. It has a raw power to it and there are some interesting bars coming from him. Having said that, you can really tell the difference when El-P, 7L or Deck comes in. I don’t think Frankie should quit his day job, but he brings it.

All and all, this is a great Czarface track and fans will be really happy with this record. The Frankie Pulitzer stuff is an interesting side note, but this is a Czarface record at its core. Frankie does what he is supposed to do, don’t mess it up. The beats here are stellar and it’s always great to have new music from Czarface.
