Prince and Metallica are returning to familiar territory. Both artists are making return appearances to the Elite 8. On John’s bracket, 8th seeded Metallica continues an improbable journey in the tournament. After disposing of top-seeded Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Metallica’s Master of Puppets won its second round matchup crushing 5th seeded Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet. Meanwhile, Prince’s Purple Rain who is the top seed on Hector’s bracket had no problems beating 5th seeded Rush’s Moving Pictures.
On John’s bracket, Metallica’s Master of Puppets would win 77.8% to 22.2% over Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet. Last year, Metallica reached the final four in the 90s Madness tournament.
On Hector’s bracket, Rush kept it close in the early hours of voting, but Prince then pulled away and never looked back. The result was Prince’s Purple Rain getting 70.6% over Rush’s Moving Pictures who got 29.4% of the vote. Prince returns to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2020.
With the win, Metallica’s Master of Puppets moves to the finals of John’s bracket where it will face the winner of 2nd seeded The Clash’s London Calling and 3rd seeded ZZ Top’s Eliminator. Prince’s Purple Rain moves not he finals of Hector’s bracket where it faces the winner of 2nd seeded U2’s The Joshua Tree and 3rd seeded Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill.
