It was one of the most intriguing set of matchups we haves seen in the 2021 Battle of the Bands. 24 hours into his matchup with 14th seeded James Brown, 6th seeded Bruce Springsteen seemed like he was going down in defeat. However Springsteen fans rallied, and helped “The Boss” complete an improbable comeback against the “Godfather of Soul”. Meanwhile, in battle of former friends turned rivals, sixth Sir Paul McCartney ousted third seeded Michael Jackson on Coop’s bracket.
Brown’s vote totals were in the 60s during the middle portion of the competition before the Springsteen fans turned on the jets. Springsteen would edge Brown by capturing 52.6% of the vote to Brown’s 47.4% – the closest matchup of the 2021 Battle of the Bands Tournament thus far.
Jackson got off to a fast start vs. McCartney, but Macca fans soon came out and started voting. McCartney would capture 64.3% of the vote. In the previous round, McCartney won the second closest battle of the tournament fending off a serious challenge by The Beach Boys.
Heading into the Elite 8, Springsteen will face the winner of the Jimi Hendrix-Allman Brothers Band matchup on Dave’s bracket. On Coop’s bracket, McCartney faces the winner of the Frank Sinatra-Billy Joel matchup.
