The 5-12 matchups of the 2021 Battle of the Bands proved to be the some of the most entertaining in recent memory. On Dave’s side of the bracket, 12th Stevie Wonder knocked off 5th seeded Beyoncé in what has to be considered an upset. Meanwhile on Coop’s bracket Prince knocked off Phil Collins, but had to rally from behind to do it.
Stevie Wonder would capture 63.2 percentage of the vote in his victory over Beyoncé. Wonder built a lead early on day one. During the early part of day two, Beyoncé rallied to tie things up before Wonder surged ahead again and never looked back.
Meanwhile on Coop’s bracket, Prince got 60% of the vote in his victory over Phil Collins. Collins jumped to a narrow lead on day one. Prince would close the gap on day two, tying Collins and then surging ahead to take the victory. Last year Prince made it to the Elite 8 on before losing to eventual Battle of the Bands runner-up Pink Floyd
On Dave’s bracket, Stevie Wonder will face the winner of the matchup between 4th seed Public Enemy and 13th seeded The Clash. Meanwhile Prince will face the winner between 4th seeded Elvis Presley and 13th seeded Donna Summer on Coop’s bracket.
